  Senior Peer Mentor (SPM) guides up to 20 peer mentors in their mentoring tasks. They share best practices, answer questions, and identify needs for additional support/training. SPMs collaborate closely with the Graduate Intern for Student Inclusion and the Peer Support Coordinator, maintaining regular communication, attending meetings, assisting in event planning, and participating in panels and events. Key responsibilities include effective communication with peer mentors, providing tailored support, and prompt reporting to the coordinator. They are actively involved in planning and managing programme activities, including 'drop-in' and feedback sessions, and are expected to maintain professional standards. They also work with other SPMs in monthly debriefs to exchange ideas and contribute to the programme’s development. They play a crucial role in promoting a positive university image and exemplifying good student conduct. Completing training and applying it is also essential. Show less As a Peer Mentor at the University of Bristol, I leverage my insights and experiences to facilitate a smooth transition for first-year students adjusting to new academic and social environments. My role involves providing empathetic one-on-one support, addressing common challenges from academic stress to homesickness, and guiding students in accessing university resources, thereby fostering their independence and problem-solving skills. I play a key role in introducing students to various clubs and societies, actively contributing to their wholesome university experience and social network expansion. I also collect feedback from mentees, using these insights for continuous refinement of the mentorship program and advocating for student needs at higher levels. This role significantly sharpens my interpersonal communication, leadership, and creative problem-solving skills, alongside reinforcing my ability to empathise and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.   First Year Law Open Day

  After an insightful day at Davis Polk's London office on April 6th, I developed my knowledge on the history, main practice expertise and clients. It was interesting to learn about the interaction between teams working on complex cross-border cases in different jurisdictions and practice areas. I also learnt about the recruitment process of the firm. The session on commercial awareness and how it is used during M&A deals was insightful as well as the trainee panel and the networking session.

Additionally, I organised events including 1) ‘Meet the Campus Ambassadors Event’ with the University of Bristol Law Club, providing students with insights into HSF’s operations and career opportunities. 2) A HSF sponsored London Criminal Court trip with an open evening at the HSF offices in London. 3) Internal rounds of the HSF Inter-university Negotiation Competition and worked with other campus ambassadors to organise the HSF Inter-university Negotiation Competition.I have also attended HSF Open Day exclusive to University of Bristol on October 23rd, 2023. This position has greatly developed my skills. Strategically promoting HSF has sharpened my marketing and outreach abilities, while organising events has enhanced my project management and leadership skills.   As a member of the committee, I contributed in several ways: (1) Content Creation for Social Media: I prepared content for the competition's Insight Series, focusing on topics such as ‘Supply Chains,’ ‘Debt and Equity Financing,’ and ‘Law Firm Economics,’ to engage participants and enhance their commercial awareness. (2) Webinar Development: I developed and presented the Day 3 session, titled ‘Artificial Intelligence and the Legal Industry,’ for the British & Irish Commercial Awareness Scheme (BCAS), a four-day webinar series designed to equip participants with essential insights into the competition. (3) Webinar Facilitation: I co-hosted the Ashurst Trainee Panel webinar, facilitating an engaging discussion by moderating questions from both the organising team and participants. This session featured two trainees from Ashurst, one of the competition’s principal sponsors. (4) Outreach and Marketing: I worked on marketing the competition to student societies at non-Russell Group universities, successfully reaching our target demographic and increasing engagement.   Government Legal Department Diversity Summer Scheme 2024 - Summer Intern

  I had the privilege of attending the 2024 Government Legal Department (GLD) Diversity Summer Scheme in association with Aspiring Solicitors. Throughout the scheme, I gained valuable insights into the diverse departments within the GLD and the significant work undertaken by legal professionals shaping the UK's legal landscape. I engaged in various group exercises, which allowed me to effectively apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios.One highlight was participating in a court trip, where I had an insightful conversation with a judge and observed a compelling criminal court case. Additionally, my time at GLD Bristol coincided with the July 4th election, providing me with a unique and informative experience. Show less
