      Jun 2012 - Aug 2012
      Mechanical Engineering Intern

Projects required me to calculate stresses in various system elements, beam and plate deflections, natural frequencies, and pressure losses in fluid systems. Created schematics and procedures for hydro-testing vessels, performed combustion analysis for a heat exchanger, and assisted developing a water curtain to protect components during hot-fire motor testing. Throughout this job was also expected to work with welders, technicians, and contractors to fabricate what was needed.

Managed projects on-site from concept, detail design, execution, commissioning and start-upFinished design phase (FEED) of a $8MM project to address a fouling issue in critical exchangers for an ethylene unit, by creating a closed clean loop and bypassing the contaminated streamCompleted economic and technical assessment of $65MM waste heat recovery projectServed as primary technical advisor on a multi-million dollar legal dispute with a contractor, providing legal team/general counsel the basis of our warranty claims and providing supporting documentation for evidenceActive member of two major turnarounds overseeing project workManaged several projects critical to plant operation including:• Emergency complete bottom replacement on 25,000m3 hydrocarbon feed tank (due to severe corrosion observed in 10 year inspection) - Repaired while plant in operation, requiring bypass strategy with 500m of piping installed - Required coordination with Ops, Reliability, Maintenance, Construction Contractor, Contracting Department, and company’s subject matter experts to develop repair strategy• Furnace work (Turnaround and critical path) - Redesigned counterweight piping support system on 48” outlet header that sustained damage due to pipe stress (24 support components replaced) - Redesigned tube seal to address multiple failures that had resulted in a fire/shutdown• Procurement and installation of 6 different tube bundles to improve productionLed effort to procure $6MM+ spare parts and establish secure warehouse in compliance with corporate procedures Vis mindre Worked alongside many diverse individuals to accomplish safe commissioning of the first Nylon 6,6 plant in the Middle East. Due to the nature of the new site, my responsibilities continuously changed to best match the needs of the team. Some of my responsibilities on the commissioning team included:•Being a safety leader, working to develop safety culture with many employees new to the Industry•Coordinating effort between multiple parties for development of procedures, lab testing & QA/QC, training, and plant modifications required for safely receiving caustic feedstock on-site•Worked with Operators to perform function tests on control valves, pumps, and Instrumentation•Participating in Punch Walks and leading multiple JSA's•Working with contractors to design and fabricate custom magnetic suction strainers for critical pumps•Leading repair effort and working as QA role for numerous leaks in process piping, overseeing contractors during welding and NDE work•Temporarily leading the CSU team on nights as the technical representative, providing nightly reports to the Day Shift•Organizing the arrival and logistics associated with most of the vendors on site during the commissioning effort •Leading an incident investigation for a product quality issue •Working closely with board operators for Nylon Salt production troubleshooting•Working to optimize Pellet Cutters and develop their operational procedures Vis mindre Part of a developmental program for graduate new Engineers. First rotation (August 2013 - October 2014) in the Technical Group at Pasadena Plastics Complex as a Mechanical Field Support Project Engineer. My responsibilities included overseeing expense and capital projects. Often worked with multiple disciplines of engineers to solve problems and then translate the solutions to a variety of technically skilled individuals for execution. Managed projects ranging from the retrofit of catalyst feeding valves to reduce emissions for environmental compliance to the installation of an above-ground 18” diameter Firewater manifold to improve integrity of our system during maintenance activity.Second rotation (October 2014 - March 2015) in the Maintenance group at the Sweeny Facility as a Maintenance Engineer. I coordinated with other Engineers and Craftsmen to ensure monthly PM’s were completed with no delinquencies. I used my technical background to troubleshoot issues and assist in the modification of these PM’s (using SAP) to optimize our mechanical integrity program. Vis mindre
