      • Teaching Assistant (1st Year Chemistry)

        Sept 2014 - Apr 2019
    • Ballard Power Systems

      May 2016 - Aug 2016
      Reearch Scientist Intern

      - Developed new nanostructured catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells, as part of the NanoMat program at UBC- Synthesized high surface area nanostructured catalysts using two strategies: polyol nanoparticle synthesis (high control but small scale) and pore-forming surfactant soft-templating (larger scale but less control over nanostructure) for hydrogen fuel cell applications- Characterized these materials using gas adsorption to measure surface area, and cyclic voltammetry to determine OER performance for anode layer fuel cell start-up conditions- Prepared ink formulations (dynamic light scattering to measure particle sizes and ink quality) and used Mayer rod coating technique to make catalyst coated films (punch hole to measure catalyst loading calculations) to then be incorporated into MEAs for testing- Analyzed, interpreted, and summarized catalyst synthesis, electrochemical, and MEA fuel cell testing data in the form of team presentations and a final report Show less
