The BCAB, in partnership with Southern High School staff, support a student-led “Project Purple” club called Southern Cares. Students sign a commitment to be drug free and alcohol free and show their support by wearing purple t-shirts and purple wrist bands. The Project Purple Initiative empowers youth to stand up and make a difference while giving students motivation and support as they embrace a message of education and awareness. Students learn that they do not need drugs and alcohol to meet life’s challenges; that they are perfect the way they are.Project Purple/Southern Cares has eight student ambassadors which created their own mission statement: “We will influence all Bulldogs of Southern High to become clear-headed, mindful and confident young adults who choose to live a drug-free life. Be a Bulldog, not a puppy!” Student members recruited the Southern student body to sign pledges and place their purple hand print on posters that proudly represent their drug-free choice.
