      Audit Associate (placement)

I was expected to undertake an industrial placement as a part of my Bachelor's Degree (BSc. in International Business and Economics). I had the good fortune and honour of being able to work at PwC (Guernsey) during my placement.During the course of this placement my time was split between providing Risk Assurance Services and performing Financial Audits. I had a first hand chance to experience life and work in the financial sector. The clients that I worked on included commercial banks, private equity funds, pension funds and real estate funds. I also studied for (and passed) the first three exams in the ACCA qualification. I developed my organisational skills, interpersonal skills and my problem solving skills. My roles and responsibilities included: organisation of team meetings (with engagement leaders and engagement managers); preparation and management of the audit file; communicating with the client and asking for what we need to perform audit testing and assisting in the planning, execution and completion of audit testing. By the end of my placement, I had the opportunity to complete an entire audit by myself (i.e. I was the only auditor in the field; I reported directly to my engagement manager and the engagement leader). I was full responsible for planning, executing and completing the audit (with the guidance of my manager). This placement really pushed me beyond my limits. It taught a lot about what my strengths and abilities actually are (as opposed to what I thought they had been). Show less
