In 2009 she returned to Virginia Tech to begin working on a Ph.D. in Integrative STEM Education, and in 2012 was hired by Harrisonburg City Public schools for her integrative STEM education expertise.As the STEM Coordinator at Skyline Middle School in Harrisonburg, VA for the past three years, Patty has worked tirelessly with her science and technology education colleagues to develop and implement a new middle school-level integrative STEM education program called the STEM Explorations Academy. The two-year curriculum teaches life science and physical science, project-specific math, and technological knowledge and skills in the context of handson engineering design activities. Their work was recognized in the recent National Academy of Engineering publication titled STEM Integration in K-12 Education.With her robust background in Technology Education, Instructional Technology, and Integrative STEM Education, Patty fully understands the ways in which technological/engineering design-based activities can benefit S, T, E, M teaching and learning and brings all of that to her Integrative STEM teaching.
