      Activities and Societies: Clark-Yudkin Research Fellow, United States Air Force Academy, 2012. As the first recipient of the Clark-Yudkin Research Fellowship, I conducted thesis research at the United States Air Force Academy Archives and Special Collections during the summer of 2012. I earned my Master of Arts degree in U.S. History from James Madison University in 2013. My academic interests include 20th century gender, social, and military history, and my Master’s thesis examined the first decade of gender integration at the United States Air Force Academy.

      • This Spring 2015 semester, I join the JMU Honors Program faculty with my newly designed course, HONORS 322 American Women at War. • In this course, students enrolled in the JMU Honors program will participate in a weekly seminar that explores a selection of primary and secondary sources exploring the following topics: women’s participation in 18th, 19th and 20th century American wars, gender and citizenship, feminist theory and societal change. • This course also offers hands-on experience that is not often afforded to college students. By working in the Army Women's Museum located in Ft. Lee, Virginia, students will learn archival procedures of cataloging, sorting, preservation and handling primary source materials pertaining to women’s service in World War I and World War II. • Students will then synthesize their knowledge from the experience to create a product that will significantly impact the historical interpretation of women’s roles.•I recently introduced my new course MSCI 360: Gender and Leadership. This course examines the unique challenges, constraints, and opportunities that face men and women today as they ascend to leadership positions in organizations. Topics include: theoretical perspectives on how the concepts of gender and leadership are constructed, gender and leadership in the workplace, the media, the political sphere, and the global community, and strategies to facilitate equity. This course is experiential and will require students to reflect on past and present challenges, as well as future opportunities as they develop their own personal leadership style. Show less Serve as Co-Director and primary instructor for a two week/three credit MSCI 355/WGS 355: American Women at War study abroad course which examines the contributions and experiences of American military women who served during World II. With onsite study in both London and Normandy, this course places particular emphasis on the role of military women in the planning and execution of the D-Day invasion and subsequent military actions aimed to liberate Europe during World War II. Students draw comparisons between the experiences of American women from different racial, ethnic,and regional backgrounds while examining how women in military service, both past and present, are an instrument for societal change in America, specifically in promoting the cause of women’s rights. Themes addressed include wartime strategy, operational tactics, and combat technology, as well as the impact of warfare on society and on the remembrances of ordinary men and women in uniform.       As Director of Leadership Development and Academic Affairs at the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL), a collegiate level leader development program for women, and the nation’s only all-female Corps of Cadets, my primary duties include developing and implementing leadership and character training for the cadets.
