      Trainee

I have been granted an administrative supplement by the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) to advance diversity in lupus research. My project, titled "Examining Adverse Birth Outcomes Among Black Women Living with Lupus," has been chosen to receive two years of funding. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the connections between physical/sexual violence, racial discrimination, and adverse birth outcomes among this specific population. To accomplish this, I will be utilizing data from the Black Women's Experiences Living with Lupus (BeWELL Study), which is spearheaded by my advisor, Dr. David Chae. The BeWELL Study is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive social epidemiological investigation of its kind. By leveraging this extensive dataset, I aim to shed light on the associations between various forms of adversity and adverse birth outcomes within the context of lupus. This research holds significant promise in enhancing our understanding of the unique challenges faced by Black women living with lupus and the potential impact of social factors on their reproductive health. The funding provided by the Lupus Research Alliance will enable me to conduct rigorous analyses and generate valuable insights that can inform targeted interventions and improve health outcomes for this population.
