An introduction into the fundamental concepts of psychoanalysis, the FPP program explores questions such as what is psychoanalysis and how can it be helpful. Seminars focus on the original work of Freud, including famous case histories. Core concepts such as transference/counter-transference, defence/resistance, applied psychoanalysis, dream theory and the work of Melanie Klein and Wilfred Bion are addressed in the first term. The winter term is comprised of a more in-depth study of the different schools of psychoanalysis from classical to contemporary, including child development, attachment theory, ego psychology, object relations, self-psychology, and relational theory. In addition, there are seminars on addiction, women, sexual diversity and psychoanalysis. Finally, the curriculum finishes with seminars on practical applications of theory to technique, neuropsychoanalysis and addictions. Show less
