  Gehl Studio is an urban design company focusing on the built environment and peoples quality of life. It is a U.S. based entity of Gehl Architects in Copenhagen. Gehl Studio was, at the time, initiating a service offering called ‘Early Activation’. This is the process of working with property developers and cities to bring life, culture and economic value to development sites in urban areas of transition.Our task was to build a business case for the Early Activation service offering in order to apply this practice to different sites around the world. This included, among other things, a market analysis, recommendations for a generic business plan for the service offering and series of visuals describing different elements of Early Activation.   The focus of my process assignment was to work a new internal marketing team, that was launched in October 2014. My assignment was to help build the foundation of a good team culture, that would support them in their daily work in the organization for the upcoming months. I saw the opportunity to create positive initiatives for a smaller team of people, who did not know each and had never worked together before.I worked from the fundamental idea of social constructionism and theoretical positions of systemic thinking, appreciative inquiry and Organizational Development. Every time I left an interview or workshop I have felt that I helped the system. I feel the process really met their need and helped the team move forward as group.   During the 4th semester of my Kaospilot education I took part in this project.I designed and conducted design thinking workshops for more than 250 high school students at eight different schools as preparation for their participation in the design competition Bellville Box, by Innovate South Africa, with focus on improving public spaces in Cape Town.Furthermore, I was designed and conducted a teaching about facilitation for Innovate South Africa´s future workshop facilitators."Thomas worked with us at Innovate South Africa for approximatey eight weeksduring what we call the 'ignition phase' of an innovation project calledThe Bellville Box. His brief was to critique and add value to our existingcurriculum for projects; to contribute to the training of facilitators; tofacilitate workshops in partnership with other facilitators with the aim ofthem being able to run independently after he had left; to contribute tothe designing of briefs and design thinking workshops.Thomas not only fulfilled everything within the brief but most definitelyexceeded expectations and his required task. Without any prompting, Thomaswas invested on every level of the project and remained consistentlycommitted and respectful of all she dealt with. Thomas displayed his abilityto think big-picture at all times. Thomas displayed the maturity needed when dealing with a range of clientswhich vary greatly.   My official title in the company has been co-founder and COO and my main focus has been business development and sales, strategy, project magement and process. However my actual role has been much broader, more hands-on and very entrepreneurial. The concept of Startup Guide is the "Lonely Planet for entrepreneurs" and has been produced and published for 10 prominent cities in Europe, including Berlin, Copenhagen, London, Lisbon, Vienna, Stockholm and Paris. It is the entrepreneurs handbook with visual guides, tips, insights, case-studies and interviews with co-working spaces, accelerators, startups, founders and corporates from the local city. I joined a bootstrapped project in 2015 without a clear business model and strategy.
