Campus Plate is a EPA funded program with a primary goal of reducing food waste and food insecurityI am the liaison between dining services and Food Stop Coordinators. I also transport and deliver Campus Plate meals to Food Stops and record meals into the app. I am in charge or implementing sustainable practices into the program so I am in contact with the head of dining and sustainability to work on these ideas. Lastly, I am in charge of marketing Campus Plate: signage, social media, public speaking. Within our first year of operation, Campus Plate has rescued over 800lbs. of food that would have otherwise been thrown away. As our team grew, I began to direct more and look into ways of improving the program as well as train volunteers and food stop managers. Show less For my internship, I was advised by University Relations and Dr. David Krueger to create sustainability signage for Baldwin Wallace University. I was in charge of creating the written communication. I collected and compiled all available resources about sustainability features on campus. I also was in charge of creating the written signage for physical signs, and virtual map content, designing the virtual map, creating website search engine words, and I proposed and organized a walking tour with our Buildings and Grounds staff to confirm locations and information. This committee is a volunteer based organization that is campus wide and include students faculty and employees. This committee was founded due to a lack of having a Sustainability hub or location on campus. We work with campus groups and community groups such as Sustainable Berea to help make our community and university more sustainable.I want to take a moment to highlight some of our successes over the last two years:• Established a Dine-In option at one of BW’s dining locations that was primarily take-away•Established a yogurt bar which eliminated plastic waste in the Union Dining Hall• Campus wide bike survey that will be used for transportation guides in the future in Berea.• Established a Instagram and on Campus Groups to make our presence more known•We implemented an incentivization program for using the Green Box program, courtesy of BW Dining Services. We have had over 45 boxes purchased from the original 10.•Donated 3,793 solar eclipse glasses to Astronomers Without Boards•A campus-wide sustainability survey was created and distributed. This survey has provided valuable insights for our future initiatives and the critical need for communications.•We had our first guest speaker, Matt Regula, who told us about the fantastic food auditing and waste reduction program called LeanPath. This program demonstrates how sustainability can promote environmentally friendly practices and save money for the university.•We now have an active spot for placing casual clothing drop-offs in the basement of the union, promoting reuse and reducing clothing waste. Show less I was accepted into a summer program that helps foster a community of scholars to help them explore research in their prospective fields. I am researching the question “Does ESG impact firm value?” specifically does ESG disclosure scores impact a firm’s Tobin’s Q value (market value of a company) I am working with the Bloomberg terminal to gather data and R Studio for data analysis. My goal for this research project is to see if there is monetary gain to a firm investing in their ESG score and to see if there is a trend from 2013-2021 data of S&P1500 companies. Show less

A BW trailblazer is someone willing to take risks and go down a path that is not already there, leaving a path for others to follow. Here's what was shared about this year’s winner: This person exemplifies what it means to be a trailblazer because of her passion for everything she does here at BW. This person is involved in several on-campus and off-campus activities and still finds a way to bring a great spirit and unique perspective to each one of them. Her passion for her sustainability major, along with facilitating the BW Sustainability Committee, has allowed her to prove she wants to make a difference in both her community and the wider world when it comes to helping the environment and combatting climate change, in a world that discourages people her age from speaking up on such an issue. She wants her voice to be heard, and in the process uplifts the voices of others, encouraging them to speak up even if they are afraid. This person’s desire to make change and pave a path to make a difference for her community and the planet truly makes her a trailblazer, and it is truly admirable. Please join me in congratulating EMMA STAMPER as the 2023 (and first ever) recipient of the BW Trailblazer of the Year Leadership Award. Show less
