The objective of this thesis is to provide a solution for the problems related to power system disturbances that affect the steady-state operation of the synchronous generator in order to maintain the stability of the power system and continuity of power supply. This can be achieved by using the proposed special protection scheme that can limit and minimize the disturbance effects to a small area of power system with a fast time.

Activities and Societies: In this study, novel IEC 61850-based protection schemes have been proposed to avoid unnecessary tripping of generating power stations during power swing oscillations and during high impedance faults on OHL as well. These proposed schemes aim to maintain the generators' synchronous operation during such disturbances, thus allowing generators to supply the needed support to the power system and leading to increased reliability and maintaining the stability of the power system. In this study, Novel IEC 61850-based protection schemes have been proposed to prevent the unnecessary tripping of generating power stations by the generator distance phase backup protection during high impedance faults on transmission lines. Besides, it maintains the generator's synchronous operation and prevents its tripping by the out-of-step protection during power swing oscillation initiated by system disturbances such as sudden load applications, while the transmission line distance… Show more In this study, Novel IEC 61850-based protection schemes have been proposed to prevent the unnecessary tripping of generating power stations by the generator distance phase backup protection during high impedance faults on transmission lines.
