    • David Brandy Photography

      Jan 2013 - now
      Owner / Creative Eye

I create lens-based art, which thrills me to no end. I have an eye for capturing images, and my artist CV includes awards and accolades to back that up. (I also appreciate the card my mom wrote.)My passion as an artist is to capture human-altered landscapes with a sense of the uncanny—a feeling of something strangely familiar. My images evoke a sense of beauty and strangeness, reflecting a splendour we seldom notice. In my ongoing series, “Newer Topographics,” I have created a canvas that emphasizes humankind's strong isolation when natural landscapes are juxtaposed with solitary manmade constructs. As an artist, my joy lies in the fact that it may take a moment or two for my images to unveil themselves to you. When they do, I hope you see the same beauty and sense of wonder I experience. – Shortlisted Finalist for Aesthetica Magazine's 2021 Aesthetica Art Prize in York, UK. – Winner of an Emerging Artist By Emerging Curator Award - 2019 Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. – Finalist in both the 2018 Quest Art and the 2017 Salt Spring National Art Prizes. The Aesthetica Art Prize poses questions about what it means to exist in a digitised, post-industrial landscape, as well as the effects of over-consumption, media stimulation, globalisation, and the climate crisis. The prize offers works that challenge us – that redefine the parameters of contemporary art and compel audiences to connect with one another. Winning pieces have reflected upon both social and political structures, questioning the value that we place on the planet and each other. They have pushed the boundaries of form and technique, providing a new set of possibilities and ideas. The works in this year's exhibition are unearthing the intricate layers of what it means to be alive today, with themes such as the pandemic, climate crisis, colonial histories, racism, new technologies and the impact it has on our lives. The pieces draw on both personal and universal narratives and in many ways that unique blend of the macro and the micro makes this exhibition immediate, compelling and highly relevant for the times in which we live.An exhibition of the shortlisted artists' works ran from May-September 2021, at the York Art Gallery in York, UK.
