  Special Strides is a non-profit organization devoted to improving the lives of individuals with special needs. With a unique combination of therapy, horses, and the natural environment, individuals achieve goals appropriate for therapy, recreation, and education. This was a unique opportunity for me to combine two of my most beloved passions- helping others and horses. I have been riding horses since I was 11 and I find such joy in sharing that love with others.   The Mediplex Surgery Center is JFK Medical Center’s hospital-based ambulatory surgery center. Located across the street from the Medical Center, the Mediplex Surgery Center is designed to cater to the pediatric patients’ special needs as well as adolescent and adult patients. State licensed and accredited by the Joint Commission, the facility features four operating rooms, one endoscopy room, and both a post-anesthesia room and a discharge recovery area, where families can stay with the patient until discharge. It is a multi-specialty facility with all the same physicians on staff as JFK Medical Center. All surgery is outpatient and all patients are discharged the same day.The surgery center has a very special place in my heart. I have learned and experienced so much while volunteering here. I have developed many great friendships with all of the nurses as well as doctors and anesthesiologists who have since encouraged me to pursue a career as a CRNA in the future. I was planning on having many more opportunities including shadowing surgeries but, unfortunately, the recent circumstances of COVID-19 have postponed them for the near future. Nonetheless, I am very grateful for the time spent including over 275+ volunteer hours, and the countless learning opportunities given to me by everyone at the surgery center. • Escort family and friends to proper destinations within the surgical center• Clean and sanitize recovery bays to improve the safety and satisfaction of each patient• Visit patients routinely to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible, bringing pillows, blankets, water, snacks, and other items when needed Show less

Senior residents will receive 24-hour medical care while also getting the rehabilitation care they need, which can include occupational therapy, posture and body mechanics, and range of motion exercises. Preferred Care At Old Bridge also provides a variety of group activities that include arts and crafts, bingo, and table games. For patients rehabilitating in their bed, there are iPad music/games, spiritual visits and sensory stimulation offered. Show less
