The project sponsored by Procter & Gamble, has the aim of developing a modular cleaning/deposition model that can be fully/partially reapplied across many different product applications. The work is divided in three sections:- Building new cleaning capability to correlate stain properties with cleanability.- Developing new methods to quickly translate mechanistic insights to new formulations.- Accelerating seed projects, mentoring PhD students and cross-fertilization of ideas from one project to another. Show less The project entitled “Modelling of dissolution kinetics of structured particles” is aiming to understand and predict dissolution kinetics based on the structural characteristics of particulate systems. The main objectives were a) material formulation and characterization - establishing methods to analyse the structure of detergent powders in order to determine structural descriptor such as porosity, particle size and location of domains within the granule (including: SEM, Mercury porosimetry, FTIR, IR microscope and 3D image processing of X-ray microtomography analyses) b) dissolution performance – evaluating the mass transfer performance of the structured powders (Electrical conductivity and UV-Vis absorbance) and c) analyses – establishing correlations between the structural factors and the dissolution profiles (MATLAB).
