      Conduct research in a group of 45 members in investigating peptide-based biomaterials with a focus on cell-material interactions for applications in bone regeneration and neuron development. Present results professionally on a monthly basis in subgroups and group meetings. Adapt and optimize protocols and thoroughly document all experimental procedures and results. Design and perform experiments to further understand and advance the project; examine outcomes. Compose part of research paper for publication. Manuscript entitled "Cell death instructed by supramolecular cohesion of nanostructures" has been accepted by Nature Communications on 12/13/2013 for publication. I am a contributing author of this manuscript. 10hrs/week during school year; 30hrs/week after graduation. Show less

      - Evaluated how increased gene expression of a membrane transporter of folate, SLC19A1, in the peripheral blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), compared to healthy controls, could suggest possible pathogenic implications. Won the Medical and Pediatric Resident Research Award from the Rheumatology Research Foundation to present this work at the American College of Rheumatology in 2020.- Investigated whether skin inflammation genes associated with discoid lupus erythematosus is differentially expressed peripherally in SLE patients with and without lupus specific skin lesions. Won Third place for the Best Scientific Abstract Competition, the 2020 Society of General Internal Medicine California-Hawaii Regional Meeting for this work.
