      Activities and Societies: 3 Week Summer Course This intensive course is designed for students who have a strong background in the natural sciences and are interested in modern biology and its applications to the fields of medicine and agriculture. Students explore how DNA works and how scientists can alter DNA for a variety of purposes. In the lab portion of the course, students learn some of the techniques used by modern biologists to study the natural world. Topics include eukaryotic and prokaryotic genetics, DNA extraction and restriction enzyme digest analysis, complementation, and “jumping” genes. In the lab section of the course, students are asked to complete in-class and homework assignments, analyze experimental data, write detailed lab reports, and make a group presentation.       Position as Research Intern and Undergraduate Assistant at the Institute of Global Health and Social Medicine at King's College London. This role included undertaking literature research and review, conducting qualitative data analysis and designing teaching tools in the workstream of mental health in war and conflict for R4HC-MENA. This project focused on building sustainable research capacity in the Middle Eastern and Northern African region to address major health challenges arising from conflict, especially mental health and cancer. Our team was paired with Birzeit University in Palestine.Main objectives included:(1) The co-development and delivery of an accredited multi-disciplinarycourse following a blended learning approach with faculty from King’s and Birzeit University;(2) Development of new sustainable partnerships between organisations to build expertise and capacity in conflict and health research; and (3) Delivery of locally driven interdisciplinary research programmes to support the afore mentioned objectives.
