Are we trying to keep up with technology? Are we trying to incorporate some code / system reuse between projects? Are we trying to utilise our development staff to the best possible effect? There are several reasons to implement an architecture team and given our setup, any one of these might be sufficient. Our first goal could be reworking the existing apps stack.ALL IT BC’s must be tabled at this forum before they go to SAG and then TIC. The forum will sit on a weekly basis initially to push whatever backlog there may be. Record the minutes and distribute the minutes. Since we already have a group of Technical leads that have good specific knowledge of the apps, modules, systems it would be a good idea to start with the invited individuals and get together and hash out what the new global architecture should look like. Define the goals of the rework and come out with a "big picture" that everybody can agree to.I would NOT bring in a whole new group from the outside. That would create an unwanted Us vs. Them dynamic that is never good. The outsiders would also have no idea of how things are supposed to work or why things don't work the way logic would imply they should. It lays out a blueprint for conducting business for the acquisition and defines how the IT works in an empowered manner, including setting out responsibility and authority. Finally it facilitates stakeholder buy in by including key members in the decision making process and obtaining their concurrence along the way. Show less
