Working with Year 10 to Year 12 students with a disability to achieve a school based traineeship with a cert 2 or cert 3 qualification. Delivering learning material and competencies in a way that suits individual learning styles and contextualising them to the workplace. Communicating and building successful relationships with all stakeholders - DESBT, DES, Host Employers, Schools, Parents and Trainees in an appropriate and effective manner that is inclusive. As I teach I learn from these amazing young people. They may have an inability today to do something but that never means they can't do it tomorrow or at some other time in the future. We all have barriers and it is how we meet those challenges that prepare us for future success. While they may be "different" they are never less and often they are more. I love seeing these incredible young people gain skills, confidence and self belief as part of their journey to achieving their dreams. Everyday I am better for working with them. I have a particular interest in ASD (Aspergers and Autism) spectrum disorders as well as Mental Health, Grief & Loss, PTSD and Trauma and working with these unique students everyday gives me the gift of learning more.
