I perform emergency assessments for client’s risk to themselves or others for suicidal or homicidal ideation. I function as a consultant for UVM Medical Center clients in the emergency department and work as a first responder for mental health crisis across the county. I triage the crisis hotline, discern diagnoses, form clinical impressions, consult with psychiatrists, and recommend next steps for individuals in need. This often includes making referrals for inpatient admission, referring clients to a variety of different voluntary programs across VT, creating safety plans, coordinating with external providers, aiding in emergency examinations for involuntary hospitalization, and forming case presentations to psychiatry at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Show less As a float, I worked as a full-time, cross-trained clinician at the ACT1, Bridge, and ASSIST programs. I assessed alcohol, amphetamine and narcotic withdrawal symptoms, screened clients for admission to detox and PIP programs, wrote substance abuse clinical assessments, created treatment plans, performed intake and discharges for clients of all three programs, oversaw training of other clinicians at all programs, created after-care plans to maintain sobriety, wrote referrals for further treatment, examined suicidality of clients and created safety plans when appropriate, counseled clients on integrating DBT for managing critical suicidal episodes, assessed acuity of mental health clients, performed clinical documentation, read vitals manually and digitally, coordinated with providers and team psychiatrist to address clients medication and treatment needs, passed medications including controlled substances, and prepared dinner while facilitating social rehabilitation for clients.
