Our classes were so small that every day you would be forced to argue your side of the story against other students and professors. I thoroughly enjoyed these classes which challenged me to use facts and data to argue my point of view. I also enjoyed the liberal arts education because it helped me broaden my horizons. However, I do not think that my education was strictly based in the classroom. I was able to engage in meaningful conversations with various people outside of the classroom. The social part of school was crucial in developing my skills and personality to who I am today. Show less

The Abele Scholars Program aids high-achieving, under-resourced, and under-represented students. The goal is to increase the accessibility and affordability of an undergraduate liberal arts education for students from low- and middle-income families throughout the United States. In addition to tuition aid and a supportive curriculum, the Scholars receive funding for college startup costs, academic enrichment opportunities, and assistance with student debt upon graduation. Established in 2018, the Program has welcomed six cohorts onto campus with 59 scholars currently in the program. Responsibilities in this program include interviewing and selecting scholars, onboarding and hands-on mentoring, teaching programs throughout the year (including financial literacy, how to deal with hardships, etiquette training, dress for success, and more), conflict resolution, building community, tracking progress, and cultivating relationships with community members to push the program forward. Throughout my tenure thus far, the program has become a crown jewel of success with our graduation and retention rates.
