      Undergraduate Research Assistant

Investigator: Dr. Melissa Skala (PhD) | Medical Engineering | Morgridge Institute for ResearchPostdoctoral Fellow: Dr. Alexa Heaton (PhD) | Medical Engineering | Morgridge Institute for ResearchWorking closely with Dr. Heaton, we are involved in developing in vivo murine immunotherapy cancer treatments and leveraging optical metabolic imaging to study immune and tumor cell metabolism live within these tumors. My specific role within the lab is to perform qualitative and quantitative metabolic data analysis on immune and tumor cells within these tumors during therapy, as well as utilizing in vivo optical metabolic imaging in preclinical models to probe immune cell response, function, and metabolism. Specifically, I create composite fluorescence intensity images, redox ratio images, and cell masks in addition to quantifying single cell fluorescence lifetime data that informs on cellular metabolism.
