This focus was taken further with my analysis into the jury system; its development, current employment, flaws, and future applicability, which contributed to a research paper. • Krispy kreme

      Oct 2013 - Jan 2016
      Retail associate

My first job after turning 16 years old, I was filled with anxiety and excitement at having my first job. Unexpectedly, I was provided the opportunity to learn and develop some "higher level" skills of analysis; analysing sales reports to make appropriate forecasts for production orders. Though I had part-time jobs prior to this, this job was different in terms of the team of people that I worked with. With the first batch of part-timers who worked at Krispy Kreme, we grew into a close bond of friends, both within the working environment and outside; some of whom have remained close friends till today. May 2014 - Jan 2015
      Intern

This internship represented my first step into a job that required self-discipline and self-motivation. With little instruction aside from the overarching goal of inviting as many international education institutions and sponsors as possible, to join the inaugural Yale-NUS College Asia Pacific Model United Nations Conference, in 2015. Without any prior experience in the matter, or even how to export a document into PDF, I set out attempting to draft formal documents and emails, looking for as many contacts and schools as possible. There was such a steep learning curve, and in the beginning, I was truly a deer in headlights. But it was an opportunity that I am extremely grateful for; it allowed me to go beyond the boundaries of a school curriculum and being a student. I was given responsibility and required to go up against my immaturity and lack of knowledge; the push I needed to becoming more accountable and to actively gain new skills.I was extremely passionate about the idea, looking for sponsors everywhere I went. The most nerve-wrecking experience was when I decided to go up to the General Manager of PaperOne, whilst representing my school at the CUBE Competition, organised by URA. I felt the deepest pit in my stomach, worried about what she would think or how I would seem. Though eventually scheduling conflicts resulted in the sponsorship being unsuccessful, it did not matter to me; I was proud that I managed to overcome my fears and anxiety, to do what needed to be done. Legal intern

Dispute Resolution & Intellectual Property DepartmentWhen I got the call that I had been accepted as an intern at Drew & Napier LLC, I was so happy I walked around with the goofiest smile on my face. Since the age of ten, my dream in life was to be a lawyer, to have the knowledge and ability to make mountains move, and to make great change to people's lives and in society. This represented my first, true taste of what I had only dreamt about. Of course, one can dream, but you never know whether your dreams are reflective of reality, which is what pushed me to this internship. Though some may have been bored by the hours of reading, researching and watch court hearings, I loved every single minute of it. Though an intern, I was provided the opportunity to draft letters, Statements of Claims, memorandums and more, all valuable experiences that I hold dearly. Show less

    • Star360 holdings

      Mar 2016 - Jun 2019

Every brand has a story to tell, and this is something that reigns especially true for Star360 Holdings, a multi-brand distributor and wholesaler for brands including, Birkenstock, Onisuka Tiger, Cole Haan, Adidas, MBT, American Eagle Outfitters, and more. As the Marketing Executive, it is my job to ensure that every individual brand's story is told to its full extent and potential, through events, content creation and collaborations with individuals who best represent each brand. From the planned campaigns, I look at the data and engagements, and use this vital information to make decisions on future collaborations and events. Also, I experiment with different styles and events to create content that our consumers love and share, to improve their brand experience. My role has given me the unique opportunity to meet and form personal relationships with many key opinion leaders, as well as to experience different styles, themes and activities. This constant learning has been vital in consistently improving my knowledge and skill set. Also, the openness of the organisation has allowed me to also evaluate and submit business development proposals for the future growth of the organisation. Show less I took my first steps into event organisation and marketing through this role, as a management trainee. I worked with senior brand directors and the marketing team, for brands such as American Eagle Outfitters, Birkenstock, Cole Haan and more - organising events and collaborating with a new wave of social media influencers to increase brand awareness and engagement. My responsibilities saw me speaking to individuals, and artistes, who I never thought I would have the opportunity to meet, to having meetings with organisational representatives I admired. It was the beginning of a new era for me, to see the world in a new light, igniting my passion for marketing, and for people. Show less

Every brand has a story to tell, but what is important is the way you tell that story; to excite your audience, create a buzz and immerse them in an experience that they would remember. One of my main roles as Marketing Manager to llaollao, Krispy Kreme, and TP Tea was to revive the social media platforms through a change in content quality and meaningful customer engages; this involved working with creative agencies, influencers and more, to find a voice that would reach the target demographic, whilst staying true to each brand’s story. Increasingly, there has been greater significance placed on Corporate Social Responsibility; organisations giving back to their communities to improve their environment. I had the privilege of planning, on behalf of the brands and franchises, various collaborations that allowed the organisation to support causes and individuals, improving overall welfare. To be able to give back to society is an honour, and I hope to be given more of such opportunities. Show less When starting out at Krispy Kreme as a Management Trainee, I was told to look at what I thought was "missing" from the organisation, or where there may be a gap. Being a millennial, one of the first things that I noticed was the state of their social media platforms. Thus began my first task of revamping and revolutionising the social media. After working with social media agencies and eventually taking the risk of internal content creation, I was humbled to see the fruits of my labour as engagements with the brand's fans grew. Following which, I began to wonder about so many other things, from delivery services to recruitment to an employee reward system. Slowly but surely, I started to work on these problems, and though some were smaller than others, the little successes and happiness all led to the organisational experience, and my experience, improving and growing with time. Law Society of Singapore - Pro Bono Services Office When I applied to be an intern at the Law Society of Singapore, I would be lying if I said I did not expect some glitz and glamour to the job. I was wrong, by all accounts, but I am glad that I was. Instead of writing important documents, speaking to lawyers and trying to demonstrate whatever knowledge I had, I was picking up phone calls and making appointments. Yet, I gained a sense of fulfilment that I did not think was possible. I had already known that many individuals did not have access to legal assistance, even in their times of need, however, I never knew the extent of the situation. So though I picked up phones and took minutes at meetings, being able to impact the lives of those who needed help, in this small way, made every moment I spent worthwhile and purposeful. Show less

      Jul 2016 - Aug 2022
      Founder

Not many people can say that they had the opportunity to start their own company at the age of eighteen, however, I was lucky enough to be given such a humbling chance. Though it may seem like an impressive feat, being able to work with clients such as PUMA, Birkenstock, Krispy Kreme and more, everyday since has been a tough lesson. Starting it was easy, getting that first client made things seem like it was a walk in the park; that it was going to be manageable, but it was the opposite. No longer able to rely on a team, you learn to appreciate when you have one, and how you can communicate with them so that you work towards a common goal. NOCO is an all-rounded business development and marketing consulting company. In terms of marketing, NOCO handles almost every aspect of a brand/company’s marketing from event organisation, public relations to social media management. This involved a great many tasks, including the curation and creation of content, liaising with suppliers and contractors, even having dinner with some of Singapore's most well-known influencers. As for business development, NOCO facilitates the achievements of its clients’ objectives - pursuing opportunities to expand their brand portfolio and facilitating the merger and acquisition of suitable businesses. Capitalising on the skillset honed through experiences in event organisation and management, NOCO’s service offerings have since expanded to include proposal and wedding planning, with the objective of creating the perfect wedding for our clients. Life is full of challenges, but it is the challenges and lessons that make life meaningful. [NOCO is on hiatus to facilitate my appointment to the Supreme Court of Singapore as a Justices’ Law Clerk]Clientele includes: Krispy Kreme, Llao Llao, TP Tea, American Eagle Outfitters, Star360, Coty Inc., Birkenstock, and more. Lifestyle Business IndustryTypically, as an intern, there is a limit to the opportunities that you are given within an organisation, however, in IE Singapore, I was graciously exposed to the day-to-day functions. From doing research analysis to meeting and presenting to local organisations, my position at IE Singapore exposed me to the unique opportunities and operations of a statutory board, completely different from my prior experiences in profit-driven firms. Also, the role pushed my creativity, as there was no "one-size-fits-all" solution, instead, each plan and strategy is tailored to the needs of the organisation, for its sustainability and future growth. I had spent many years in roles such as marketing, public relations, and branding. But, what I had come to realise was that I had been drawn to such roles because they were rife in problems, which gave me countless opportunities to think critically and creatively in the process of problem-solving. Also, such roles allowed me to directly contribute to the growing of businesses, be it through, amongst other things, increasing revenue and profits or improving brand awareness. In other words, I realised that my passion and drive came from problem-solving and from wanting to grow businesses. So, I moved into a role that would allow me to continue honing my marketing skills while directly facilitating the growth of the business. What I did not expect to get out of this role was intricate knowledge of the process of mergers and acquisitions, and of commercial property development. It was an incredible learning experience. As I have had education and employment opportunities in both business and law-related fields, I am blessed to have a network comprising of people from rather diverse backgrounds. However, many of my family members, friends, and acquaintances outside of the legal industry understandably have no idea what my job as a Justices’ Law Clerk (“JLC”) entails. So, here’s a succinct summary published by the Singapore Legal Service in 2018: “The Supreme Court Bench is … supported by JLCs. The JLCs assist the Judges to whom they are assigned on various matters including research on the law. … Under the JLC Continuing Education Programme, the JLCs also have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of a range of distinguished speakers.”One other aspect of my role as a JLC is to assist the Judges with speeches that they may deliver at various events and conferences. Some speeches I have assisted with include: - "Arbitrability and Public Policy: A Discussion of Anupam Mittal v Westbridge Ventures II Investment Holdings [2023] SGCA 1", delivered by Justice Philip Jeyaretnam at the 9th Journal of Private International Law Conference 2023; and - “Effective Interpretation of Arbitration Clauses and its Limits”, delivered by Justice Jeyaretnam at Global Arbitration Review’s GAR Live: Singapore 2023. I am honoured to have had the privilege to clerk for Justice Kwek Mean Luck (Judge of the High Court; Chair of the Singapore Judicial College’s Board of Governors), Justice Philip Jeyaretnam (Judge of the High Court; President of the Singapore International Commercial Court), and Justice Steven Chong (Judge of the Court of Appeal). Show less Following the separation of the Singapore Legal Service into the Singapore Legal and Judicial Services, incoming Justices’ Law Clerks (“JLCs”) were appointed “Justices’ Law Clerk - Designates” (“JLC-Ds”) before commencing their stints as JLCs of the Supreme Court of Singapore, all as part of the 18-month employment contract with the Singapore Judicial Service. During my time as a JLC-D, we underwent rigorous preparatory training, while concurrently undertaking Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations. The training focused on, inter alia, improving on our legal writing, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning skills. Also, we were exposed to the work of the Supreme Court Registry, State Courts, Family Justice Courts, and Attorney-General’s Chambers, through attachments to each. Show less

To recover and seek treatments for a persistent injury, I am taking a temporary step back from the legal industry, and going back to my roots in business development, strategy, and marketing for the next few months. I am excited for the many projects, collaborations, and expansions over the coming months. Thus far, it has been a refreshing change and, certainly, my legal training has also come in handy. In particular, I am grateful for the opportunity to re-familiarise myself with mergers and acquisitions; debt capital markets; property development; and joint venture initiatives. Further, I look forward to learning more about bank financing, retail markets, and consumer behaviour in foreign markets, such as Malaysia and Hong Kong. The brand portfolio I am currently managing includes, Krispy Kreme, Jamba Juice, llaollao, 108 Matcha Saro, Ben’s Cookies, TP Tea, and Cinnabon. Additionally, I am constantly and continually exploring opportunities to expand our existing brand portfolio, whether through joint ventures, franchising, and/or acquisition. If you have any thoughts or ideas, including interests in sub-franchising in select markets and brands you believe may be a good addition to our group, please drop me a message - always happy to chat!
