Thesis Summary: Investigated the forces and stresses in differential gears using FEA. The results showed that the forces and stresses were below the allowable stress of the material used in the gears. The maximum von Mises stress was in the ring gear, and the minimum was in the side gears. The maximum effective load was in the final and ring gears. The factor of safety obtained from theoretical calculations was close to the factor of safety obtained from FEA.
