      I worked with a biomedical engineer and did maintenance on medical laboratory equipment at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. I was able to get hands-on experience with CT-scans, chemistry analyzers, and mammograms.

      Workshop Leaders are responsible for assisting first-year students in their adjustment to life on the Bluff by teaching a 10-week class, beginning during Orientation and ending the week after Fall Break. Workshop Leaders work with a professor whose intro class is connected to the workshop class to discuss concerns, reinforce learning, and share student updates. Workshop lesson topics cover a broad range of issues relevant to not only transitioning to life at the University of Portland but also to becoming a successful student; they include time management, campus resources, stress management, reading textbooks, taking notes, studying for math and science, taking tests, active learning, goal setting, wellness, choosing a major, and registration. Workshop Leaders are also required to attend Building Community: Serving to Learn over Labor Day weekend, and are responsible for taking students on Portland’s public transportation system for one lesson to get them acquainted to exploring our city.
