      Sept 2009 - Jun 2012
Chief Executive Officer VA Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System

Served as Chief Executive Officer where I fostered strong academic affiliations with universities in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Oversaw the construction of over $300M in new facilities that included a clinical addition, 26 bed inpatient blind rehabilitation unit, 96 bed Community Living Center, 64 bed Inpatient Mental Health unit, a parking garage and a utility plant. Oversaw the planning and design of an in/outpatient rehabilitation building, consolidated laundry/kitchen and co-joined the Prosthetics and Durable Medical Equipment programs. These facility additions were the result of the CARES Commission and the aftermath of the destruction of the Gulfport facilities by Hurricane Katrina. DoD sharing was a strong component along the Gulf Coast as four medical care facilities are near or co-located with military bases. Show less

      Apr 2013 - Jul 2013
Acting Network Director, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 8

VISN 8 consists of eight healthcare systems in Florida and the Caribbean. I led the Directors of these systems as we implemented National VA program initiatives which addressed healthcare and political issues. My task was to coordinate our collective efforts to drive system performance in quality, patient safety and value. Improvements were also achieved in suicide prevention, reducing homelessness and veteran trust scores.

I provided strategic direction to over 5,600 employees to accomplish local, VISN and national goals. My responsibilities included oversight and management of a $1.4B budget. I oversaw an extensive, funded research and development program that included studies in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease and the assessment of health care delivery. Show less
