Self-presentation theory focuses on the motives we have for creating certain impressions on others, the factors which make us act on these motives, the strategies with which we do so, how efficacious we are about conveying the desired impressions, and various psychological and social consequences of our self-presentations.My research has included: development of a questionnaire which assesses the athlete's strength of motivation to create certain impressions; design of an experimental protocol to elicit heightened "impression motivation" and observation of the effects on cognitive performance; qualitative exploration of the process of self-presentation, from underlying personality traits involved in self-presentation, through motives, motivation, efficacy, behaviours, and other consequences. Invited by the Head of the Vet School, a prudent move (cf. https://www.vettimes.co.uk/news/calls-for-vet-schools-to-teach-more-behavioural-psychology/).- October 2022: Work package lead (behavioural insights) for a ~£1.5m Wellcome Trust bid (call: 'Advancing climate mitigation policy solutions with health co-benefits in G7 countries').- October 2022: Kicked off another round of mentoring young people interested in STEM subjects for Brightside Mentoring's national programme (https://brightsidementoring.org/).- October 2022: PI on a ~£350k stage 1 application for a Health and Care Research Wales Health Research Grant.- September 2022: I welcomed the first cohort to our MSc in Behaviour Change at Aberystwyth University (https://courses.aber.ac.uk/postgraduate/C801-behaviour-change/). On one hand this is the culmination of years of thinking, planning, stakeholder engagement, and lengthy validation processes; on the other, it's just the start of a journey of mutual education, collaboration, impactful dissertation research, and opportunity.- September 2022: Designed and co-delivered (with Kate Parsons) a behaviour change workshop for stakeholders in African Penguin (and other endangered seabirds) conservation, in Cape Town, funded by MeerWissen, the National Geographic Society, et al.
