  Activities and Societies: American Physiological Society, Society of Toxicology, and American Heart Association My graduate research demonstrated that airway exposure to carbon-based nanomaterials can alter coronary artery function in the heart. In severe situations, such changes could worsen heart attack.   Activities and Societies: Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society At UNC Pembroke I excelled in biological sciences and established a fundamental appreciation for chemistry. I also received an excellent introduction to research. It was here I realized my desire to pursue a career in advanced research. Most importantly, being a student at UNC Pembroke solidified the foundation to my success: the courage to share my ideas with the experts and ask them my biggest questions.
