  I teach an introductory course on planning as one of the classes offered by UMW’s Department of Geography. The course covers key milestones in planning history, the comprehensive plan, zoning codes, disciplines within planning (environmental, transportation, urban design to name a few), as well as the role that ethics plays in planning. I also cover contemporary needs in planning such as resilience, housing affordability, and planning practices to promote greater diversity, inclusion and equity. Show less
