  • Organised a 2 month placement in general surgery and obstetrics at a busy Cuban hospital. • Experiencing a unique healthcare system, delivering free healthcare for all but with very limited resources. • Gained understanding of the importance prioritisation where equipment and medicines were particularly valuable and scarce. • All work was conducted in Spanish requiring quick learning to overcome the communication barriers. • A challenging but extremely worthwhile experience to gain insight into the contrasting healthcare environments of the UK and Cuba.   I worked in the joint national digital strategy and policy unit between NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care. I acted as a lead clinical advisor across various digital transformation projects covering urgent and emergency care including 111 as well as bookings and referral management across the NHS. I developed strong relationships with suppliers of digital health technology from start-ups to large corporates. I facilitated these organisations to form partnerships, test within the NHS and gain market access with the aim of scaling up for the benefit of the whole system. I developed in depth knowledge of the regulatory environment for digital health in the UK and collaborated with the Care Quality Commission to develop regulatory recommendations for digital clinical triage tools. I conveyed the digital transformation vision for the NHS to internal and external stakeholders, speaking at numerous conferences and engaging with other government departments such as the Department of International Trade.
