Project management, project execution, people management, and team operationMajor projects during this period include:1. CO2 capture: Physical property calculation and process simulation for CO2 capture by both chemical solvents and physical solvents. The simulation files have been released in Aspen Plus as example files. Journal papers are also published.2. Biodiesel: An innovative technology is come out to model the physical properties of the bio-diesel systems, which resulted in an US patent. The production process of biodiesels is simulated in Aspen Plus and released within as an example file. Journal papers are also published on this work.3. Coal gasification: Both entrained-flow coal gasifier and moving-bed coal gasifier are simulated in Aspen Plus. Reaction kinetics and flow dynamics are taken into account by external user fortran subroutines. The models have been released with Aspen Plus.4. Scaling: Solubilities of carbonates and sulfates, which are the common scales in sea oil produciton are studied and modeled in Aspen Plus, based on the electrolyte NRTL activity coefficient method. The files are release in Aspen Plus as example files. Journal papers are also published.5. Industiral packages: Thermodynamic properties of sulfuric acid system and the brine solution are studied and modeled based on the symmetric electrolyte NRTL activity coefficient model. The files have been released in Aspen Plus. Journal papers are also published.6. Black oil PVT experiments: Black oil PVT tests are simulated in Aspen Plus. Three batches of simulations are made, based on PC-SAFT, SRK, and PR, respectively. The files have been released in Aspen Plus.7. Molecular characterization of crude assays: An innovative technology is come out to represent crude oils with real species and to determine the composition of these species in a crude or its cuts. Based on this technolgy, various properties in an crude assay are modeled. This work results in an US patent. Show less Physical property modeling and process simulation for CO2 capture by both chemical solvents and physical solvents in Aspen Plus. For chemical solvents, such as ethonal amines, electrolyte NRTL activity coefficient method is utilized as the thermodynamic framework. Phase equilibrium, heat of absorption, heat capacity, speciation, as well as transport properties are modeled. Model parameters are regressed against literature data when necessary. Then rate-based distillation model is used to simulate the absorber and stripper. For physical solvents, PC-SAFT equation of state is used as the thermodynamic framework. Both thermodynamic properties and tranport properties are studied. Finally rate-based distillation model is used to simulate the absorber and stripper. The simulation files of this work have been released with Aspen Plus as example files since version 2006.5. Several articles are also published on ACS journals. Show less
