  Research Assistant

  I was apart of phase I of a II phase research project on the availability of mental health services on college campuses. College is an especially stressful time in a person's life and a common age of onset for a myriad of mental illnesses. Our objective was to try and measure the accessibility of mental health services on college campuses, highlight barriers such as awareness of services and ability to pay, while establishing minimum standards and best practices. I designed a coding system to evaluate the visibility and scope of mental health services on college websites. Our group evaluated every 2 year, 4 year, state, and private college, website. We presented our findings at the Minnesota Undergraduate Conference (MUPC 2011). Show less

  Ruby was placed at the American Red Cross full time as a program assistant through the Corporation for National Service and Community learning. Her primary duties were to coordinate community presentations on various health and safety topics and support the communications department in community outreach initiatives. She trained and managed volunteer community educators, coordinated outreach events, secured funding and in-kind donations, created and disseminated marketing materials, and expanded community outreach databases.Secondarily, Ruby acted as a caseworker for the Restoring Family Links program, an international program that reconnects families who have been separated by natural disasters or war. Ruby ensured delivery of Red Cross Messages and assisted with tracing sought persons. She managed all the RFL casework, entered and maintained records in RFL electronic database, as well as trained and supervised volunteer RFL caseworkers. Show less
