The BC plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the bureau. TPS typically works with subject matter experts to develop legislatively mandated training and guidelines and has oversight of specialized simulator training. Responsibilities include:• The Force Option Simulator (FOS) and Law Enforcement Driving Simulator (LEDS) at the 24 Regional Skills Training Centers, • Robert Presley Institute for Criminal Investigations (ICI), • Instructor Development Institute (IDI), • Academy Instructor Certification Course (AICC), • Development and publishing of guidelines; Motors Guidelines, Student Safety Guidelines, and Vehicle Pursuit Guidelines to name a few, • Quality Assessment Program (auditing courses), • Museum of Tolerance (MOT), • Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted (LEOKA), • and mental health training.TPS also oversees several grants including Environmental Protection Grant, Homeland Security Grant, Procedural Justice Funds, and the Memorial License Plate Funds. The essential functions include planning and directing the development of training standards, mandated course curricula, and implementing new programs such as the Procedural Justice/Implicit Bias training course.
