      Undergraduate Researcher

During the year I was in Dr. Kingston’s lab I worked on an ongoing investigation of natural products trying to find a compound that would inhibit the growth of a particular strain of ovarian cancer cells. I was given three plant samples obtained from Madagascar and I used different separation techniques to reduce the various plants into simpler compounds. Some of the techniques used include liquid-liquid partitioning, affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, and HPLC. The compounds would then be assayed against the ovarian cancer cells, the compound that showed the most inhibition was separated further until a final pure compound was obtained. The structure of this compound was elucidated using NRM and Mass spectroscopy technologies. Show less

    • Virginia Tech

      Aug 2013 - May 2014

As a senior at Virginia Polytechnic Insitute and State University I worked in the Dr. Biswarup Mukhopadhyay lab. I was given a project in which I was to clone new genes into E.coli that would be used to develop biofuels. This system would be extrapolated to M.smegmatis and further optimized in the future where the product could be used as jet fuel. Conduct class discussions, assign homework and grade assignments

      Aug 2014 - Sept 2020
      Graduate Research Assistant

Currently studying towards a PhD in Biochemistry while working in the Wilfred Chen Lab in Chemical Engineering. The focus of my research is to engineer synthetic dynamic metabolons via dCas9 guided assembly onto DNA. This synthetic platform can be applied to increase titers across a wide array of products including active pharmaceutical agents, next generation biofuels and bulk chemicals.
