Project 1: Developing Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) for Freeways in Connecticut and New Jersey Considering Interaction between Speed Limit and Geometric Variables (Funded by Department of Homeland Security) Collecting road geometry and traffic crash data for freeways Developing Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) considering interaction between variables for total as well as fatal and injury crash types for both single-vehicle and multi-vehicle crashes. Project 2: Evaluation of Surrogate Measure for Pedestrian Safety in Various Road and Roadside Environments (Funded by Center for Transportation and Livable Systems,University of Connecticut) Collecting pre-defined pedestrian conflict data from pedestrian crossings throughout Connecticut. Investigating how roadway and roadside characteristics are associated with pedestrian-vehicle conflicts and crashes at various levels of severity, and also the extent to which pedestrian-vehicle conflicts are associated with crashes.Project 3: Investigation of Road and Roadside Design Elements Associated with Elderly Pedestrian Safety (Funded by New England University Transportation Center) Collecting crash data for senior and non-seniors pedestrians at pedestrians crossings throughout Connecticut To investigate factors associated with senior pedestrian crash severity relative to non-seniors and the extent to which observations of conflict severity between senior pedestrians and vehicles are adequate indicators of the actual crash severity.Project 4: Developing Connecticut Crash Data Repository (Funded by ConnDOT and FHWA) Developing a web tool designed to provide access to select crash information collected by state and local police.Project 5: Multi-stage Crash Prediction Modeling Putting crash prediction and injury severity prediction in a hierarchical model and carrying out simultaneous inference. • Responsible for serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the Department's Complete Streets policy, and for ensuring its implementation. This requires coordination with the Division of Project Management (DPM) and supervision of staff to thoroughly assess all NJDOT projects regarding bicycle, pedestrian, and Complete Streets accommodations in a timely manner.• Responsible for administering the federally funded Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for all public roads - municipal, county, and state - in New Jersey. HSIP funds are used for state highway improvements and locally driven roadway improvement projects overseen by the Metropolitan Planning Organizations. New Jersey has adopted the National Strategy of "Toward Zero Deaths."• Other responsibilities include overseeing staff and assisting in managing, administering and providing SME review on the various Consultant Contracts for the Bureau, developing problem statements intended to address data driven safety concerns, participation in the development of projects managed by DPM from concept development through final design, assisting in the implementation of New Jersey's Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and helping to train and develop new professional staff to assist with delivering on the Capital Program, SHSP and HSIP goals and objectives for the State of New Jersey. Show less • Oversight of the Arterial Management Center that utilizes “state of the art”technology to monitor traffic signal timings along selected corridors and to developsignal operation improvement plans including those for emergency conditions.• Utilizing state-of-the-art technology on New Jersey highways such as adaptivetraffic signal systems or connected traffic signals to optimize traffic signalperformance.• Optimizing NJDOT's more than 2563 signalized intersections and implementingadaptive traffic signal systems to make traffic flow more efficiently along highlycongested corridors.• Developing the systems necessary to make our highways compatible withConnected and Autonomous Vehicle Technology.• Overseeing contract agreements for various contractors and/or consultants thatperform work in concert with the AAM staff in order to complete projects andprogram initiatives. Show less Perform Phase Reviews. Attend all pre-construction meetings, partnering sessions and other construction related meetings which have an impact on motoring public. Coordinate construction and maintenance lane closures. Review all lane closures to determine approval of lane closures and determine potential conflicts. Recommend traffic mitigation plans be developed for major projects. Assist the TOC staff to perform functions according to written procedure. Recommend new ITS facilities during concept development phase. Show less
