  As part of my studies at Maastricht University I conducted thesis research at the Max Planck Institute in Potsdam. At the Systems and Synthetic Biology group I collaborated in a project that aimed at the introduction of a foreign metabolic pathway in a micro-organism relevant for bioproduction of value-added-chemicals, fuels, and biomass.

  Project Intern - Medical microbiology

  Work on development of novel genetic editing tools to use on the devastating malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. During this period CRISPR based methods were tested and implemented to elucidate functional characteristics of the parasite in human blood cells. Mutated parasites were to be assessed for aberrant molecular mechanisms of disease and for divergent responses to antimalarial agents.

  Research Intern - Exploratory Clinical Research

  Master Thesis ResearchAt Intravacc (Institute for Translational Vaccinology, Bilthoven) I have been involved in a project that aims at establishing safe and effective vaccines to prevent enterovirus infections. My work entailed the characterization of the enterovirus capsid and its stability, using analytical methods (e.g. thermal shift assay). These methods are optimized during this master thesis and would facilitate future stability research on a range of viruses (e.g. different enteroviruses). The (high-throughput) analysis methods would herein also accelerate the discovery of new therapeutics with antiviral activity. Show less
