I assisted with general duties in the kitchen relating to delivery of patient trays, collecting inventory and managing safety and sanitation.

  Working outpatient and getting experience with working with Nepali, Somail and Spanish speaking patients diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. I got experience working with an interpreter and learning more about different cultures. I was able to provide nutrition recommendations based on what cultural foods each person consumed. I was able to listen and address patients concerns related to their health conditions.

  During my 8 week rotation at the hospital for my 400 hours of clinical, I was able to get experience with a variety of different illnesses. I provided patients with nutrition recommendations ranging from dietary changes, supplemental changes, and lifestyle changes. I did a variety of nutrition educations for heart failure, low sodium diets, diverticulitis - low fiber/high fiber diets, carbohydrate counting and low carbohydrates for patients with diabetes.

  Throughout my 4 weeks at WIC, I counseled a variety of patients from pregnant moms, breastfeeding and postpartum moms, to children and infants under the age of 5. I provided nutrition care and breastfeeding education to WIC clients to make sure they are getting adequate nutrition.

  I worked at the diabetes institute offering nutrition counseling to patients with prediabetes, gestational diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I counseled patients about medications, correction factors, pumps, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle by incorporating healthy food options and increasing daily physical activity.
