      Genafriend: A Project Connecting Socially Disconnected Elderly Citizens with Keen Youth.Elderly all around New Zealand experience widespread loneliness and social disconnection, especially for those who are separated from their family & friends during this time. Here at Genafriend, we are looking for a team of mature, enthusiastic, and bright student volunteers who are willing to connect with a senior citizen via weekly video calls. Over time, you will create a mutually-beneficial and meaningful friendship with the elderly person. You will gain from their wisdom, learn new communication skills, find joy in getting to know them, and attain unique and impressive volunteering experience. Simultaneously, you will take part in creating positive social change, cultivating intergenerational relationships that alleviate social isolation for senior citizens at a time where it is much needed.My role at Genafriend involves contacting and working with people to expand Genafriend and improve on various areas. I have strong communication skills and am confident speaking to new people, making this a very rewarding role. Show less

Six New Zealand students were selected in 2019 and will be… Show more The International Science School is a biennial science school that celebrate and honors excellence in young people displaying a passion and aptitude for science, and aims to encourage these students to pursue careers in science and related areas.It is a two-week residential science camp which includes a range of activities including lectures by renowned scientists, hands-on scientific workshops and an active social program. Six New Zealand students were selected in 2019 and will be joined by another 140 students selected to attend from Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and the United Kingdom.Learning and interacting with the professionals at ISS equipped me with motivation and new insight into how to pursue my goals in STEM. I underwent a lot of personal growth through the ISS and came out of it eager to begin my journey into a STEM career. Show less
