  Chief Master Sergeant Mikael “Mack” Sundin is the Command Chief for the 140th Wing, Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, Colorado. As the Command Chief, he advises the wing commander on matters impacting the enlisted force such as proper utilization of personnel, quality of enlisted leadership, management/supervisor training, operations tempo and quality of life. Further, Chief Sundin is responsible for monitoring compliance with Air National Guard and Air Force standards including those standards governing conduct, performance, appearance, and professional military education. He serves on advisory councils and works to insure a close relationship with the local community. Chief Sundin maintains as liaison between the wing commander and enlisted force and staff members, and communicates with the wing commander on issues, concerns, and morale of the enlisted force.   The SELMO manages a triad of responsibilities that interconnect as functional management, development, and nominative opportunities. Since its establishment, the office has made it possible for multiple ANG command chiefs to interview for Combatant Command, Major Command, Joint Task Force, Department of Defense positions and regular Air Force wing command chief master sergeant assignments. In fact, SELMO’s efforts have resulted in historical appointments for the ANG’s leaders.   As the Command Chief Master Sergeant, Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, and Command Chief Master Sergeant, 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern), I advise the CONR-1AF (AFNORTH) commander on matters influencing the health, morale and welfare of assigned enlisted personnel and their families. First Air Force is one of three numbered air forces assigned to Air Combat command and has the responsibility of ensuring the air sovereignty and air defense of the continental United States (CONUS). Also, as the CONUS geographical component of the bi-national North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), we provide airspace surveillance and control and directs all air sovereignty activities for the continental United States. My primary responsibility was taking care of our J5/8 personnel and their families across 39 different Defense Cooperation Offices. Along with that, I served as the U.S. EUCOM Command Senior Enlisted Leader's advisor for all National Gaurd Enlisted matters, guided and mentored Ally and partner nations’ enlisted forces, and continued to build non-commissioned officer development within our 22 State Partnership Program countries. He is the principal advisor to the Director on all matters affecting organizational climate and culture, security cooperation policy and strategy; workforce recruitment, development, and retention; manpower utilization and integration; and enlisted service member training, education, and professionalism within the SC community, while enhancing opportunities for partner nation enlisted corps development. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) executes Security Cooperation programs and initiatives that develop specific partner capabilities, build alliances and partnerships, and facilitate U.S. access.
