Hired as first emergency management professional to establish a new program for the city of Phoenix -- the nation's sixth largest city at that time with a population of 1.3 million covering over 476-square miles. I coordinated all emergency management functions between 26 full-service line departments, the Mayor/City Council Offices, as well as with outside agencies, media and utilities. I wa responsible for coordinating the City's disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs. Coordinated all EOC management/exercise training programs, prepared, submitted and managed an annual $1.2 million budget, acted as the City's Federal Disaster Applicant Agent for six disasters. I spearheaded a number of federal programs designed to improve the readiness of the City of Phoenix in dealing with a terrorist attack involving chemical, biological and/or nuclear agents. Many of my duties focused on Y2K contingency planning and education. I was the lead Fire Warden manager for all city-owned buildings, including the new 20-story City Hall. Show less
