While at F&D I became an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Law School where I taught Business Planning. I became a partner at Foreman & Dyess in November, 1980 and left approximately 6 months later to start Porter & Clements along with 8 other lawyers.

I served as the Section Chair of the Tax Section for 9 years. I then served as the Practice Management Partner for 2 years before serving on the board of directors and the admission to partnership committee for approximately 11 years..During the last 5 years that I was on the board of directors and admission to partnership committee, I also served as the Practice Management Partner which gave me the opportunity to work with the Section Chairs in a role comparable to a chief operating officer. I was actively involved in the firm's targeted business development programs, legal project management and project budgeting efforts. During this time I also continued to be represent clients in significant mergers and acquisitions and business tax planning.During this period I also taught as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Law Center teaching Advanced Corporate Tax.
