      Started correctional career at FCI Terminal Island Federal Prison located in Long Beach California in July 2008, transferred then to MCC San Diego Federal Prison as a Correctional Officer starting January 2010. As an officer, I transport inmates to and from medical and dental appointments, funerals, work details and court hearings. Conduct internal security checks and inspect visitors for prohibited items and hidden messages within the distributed mail. In addition patrol vehicles are operated and carry various weapons as well as qualified weapons such as a 9mm pistol, shotgun, M4 semi-automatic rifle, pepper spray, OC and CS gas LW2 riot grenade launcher gun and nightstick. Maintain records and logs of law enforcement duties, man hours, materials and equipment used. Implement defensive tactics and physical restraints to maintain the safety and security of personnel and the general public. Supervise and monitor inmates during meals, visits, recreation, telephone calls and shower time. Receive property from incoming inmates, provided receipts and inspected items for contraband. Enforce resident behavior management system and write incident reports for infractions. Employ de-escalation techniques, verbal commands and use physical and mechanical restraints to address unruly inmates. Report security breaches, disturbances, violations of rules and any unusual occurrences. Nominated top of the class for honors certification in firearms while attending FLETC (federal law enforcement training center). Averted potential riots by effectively handling numerous confrontational situations with other corrections team members.
