  Teaching at the middle school level has been an eye-opening experience as I have seen how far back student gaps in math go. I have taught pre-algebra topics including geometry, functions, and solving equations. I have also taught math labs, accelerated math, money 101, and advisory. Teaching at Kuss has given me insight to teaching in a diverse urban setting and how to navigate vast differentiation within a single class of students.

  The longer you teach, the more you feel like you have seen it all; then each year you are reminded of how much more there is to learn. Village Green students use an online curriculum program called Edgenuity and the teacher is really the support as opposed to the main source of information. I love this design and I believe it is the way education should happen. I taught geometry, algebra II, and math SAT prep to our 60 11th grade students. Teaching at VGV gave me insight to teaching from a pre-built online curriculum at a high school level and the challenges that you are met with from that; such as chasing students down to complete work and student focus on the program rather than the teacher.   Rhode Island Connections Academy was created when I started in August of 2021 and, unfortunately, will be closing at the end of its second year here in 2023. I have learned a plethora of new information within these past two years teaching online. I taught all math courses for grades 7-12 and was also the training representative. I learned the Pearson Online Classroom (Connexus) system and have created better connections with families and students than I ever did in the brick and mortar in-person setting. Show less
