      Geologist/Project Manager

McKesson Chemical Company, Glendale, ArizonaField geologist and field operations manager for site characterization and soil remediation activities at an aboveground solvent storage tank complex. The soil sampling program consisted of vertical and slant borings identifying a contamination plume extending to more than 100 feet below ground surface. Site remediation activities included demolition of the tank complex and excavation of approximately 1,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil using traditional excavating equipment as well as large‐diameter soil borings extending from 40 to 100 feet in depth. Underground Storage Tank Programs, ARCO and Shell Oil,Various Sites, California.Operations Director and Program Manager directing site characterization, feasibility studies, and remediation activities at more than 50 underground and aboveground storage tank sites. These projects involved characterization and feasibility study activities, drilling, well installation and sampling, groundwater pumping tests, groundwater modeling, soil vapor extraction tests, air sampling, and health‐risk assessment. Site remediation activities included groundwater extraction and treatment, soil bioremediation and/or disposal, soil vapor extraction, and free product recovery. City of San Mateo Third Avenue Redevelopment Project, San Mateo, CaliforniaProject Manager for site characterization, remediation, and litigation support associated with a former service station obtained by the city under eminent domain proceedings. Site characterization was complicated by complex hydrogeologic conditions caused by an adjacent tidally influenced creek and conversion of the site into a park. Remediation activities included extensive excavation and reconstruction of the creek to remove soils contaminated with waste oil. Provided technical defense for activities the city undertook to investigate and remediate the site in litigation involving nine former property owners, station operators, and fuel suppliers.Redwood Landfill, Novato, CaliforniaProject Manager for the groundwater monitoring program at an operating landfill. Complex hydrogeologic conditions predominated at the site as the result of sediment compaction below the landfill. Used cation/anion data to cost‐effectively identify wells that were screened in both the refuse and underlying sediments, which were removed to prevent cross contamination. Show less

      Independent Consulting Senior Geologist

Campo Landfill Project, Campo Indian Reservation, CaliforniaSenior geological consultant providing litigation support to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to defend against a preliminary injunction to halt activities on this landfill construction project.Evaluated expert testimony and hydrogeologic data pertaining to the ability to monitor the site, which was over a fractured‐bedrock, sole‐source aquifer. After the final Environmental ImpactStatement (EIS) was prepared, reviewed new hydrogeologic data for the site to determine its“significance” and made recommendations regarding the need for a supplemental EIS.King Salmon Air Force Base Project, King Salmon, AlaskaSenior geological consultant conducting analysis and interpretation of RI/FS data collected at 13 U.S. Air Force sites, including drum disposal sites, a PCB spill site, storage areas, and bulk fuel storage facilities. Analyzed aquifer test data and interpreted groundwater characterization data to develop recommendations for additional characterization of a multiple‐aquifer system. Reviewed abioremediation treatability study, prepared a work plan for pilot‐scale field tests, and evaluatedfeasibility study data on two product recovery systems. Show less

      Operations Director

US Navy's Comprehensive Long‐Term Environmental Action Navy (CLEAN), Northern CaliforniaProgram Manager for the Navy’s CLEAN II program, directing a project team performing $2‐3 millionannually. Successfully reduced closure compliance requirements at Navy bases and completedcomplex studies and reports under accelerated schedules. Task orders included remedialinvestigations, feasibility studies, human health risk assessments, aquifer testing, environmentalbaseline surveys, post‐remedial monitoring, sampling and analysis plans, base closure andrealignment (BRAC) property transfer support and documentation, and community relations plans.U.S. Army Environmental Center, Operable Unit 3 (OU3) RI/FS, Schofield Army Barracks, HawaiiProject Manager for the $3.1 million RI/FS involving field investigation of 34 sites at an activemilitary base. Investigative techniques included soil‐gas surveying, mobile laboratory operation, soil, sediment and surface water sampling, and a storm/sewer line investigation. The field investigationwas followed by risk assessments, feasibility studies, remedial action plans, and Proposed Plan and Record of Decision documents. The project schedule was accelerated without increasing the cost to assist the Army in meeting regulatory deadlines. On‐Call Environmental Services, City of Oakland and Port of Oakland, Oakland, CaliforniaProject Manager for four multiple‐award contracts performing a wide range of environmentalactivities. These projects included UST removal, soil remediation, regulatory compliance negotiationsupport, and groundwater investigation. Show less
