    • Massachusetts Youth Leadership Foundation

      Dec 2012 - Dec 2016

Massachusetts Youth Leadership Foundation (MYLF) is a Massachusetts-based 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization seeking to recognize, teach, and empower leadership in high school sophomores across the state. We value the potential of young people as our future leaders and provide them with the tools to create positive change in their schools and communities. MYLF's central program is MassSTAR (Massachusetts STudents Accepting Responsibility), a three day leadership conference held on a college campus each summer. We invite one sophomore from every Massachusetts-accredited rural, suburban, and inner city high school, both public and private, to participate in an exciting, hands-on learning experience. Student delegates are nominated and chosen by their school principals, guidance counselors, teachers, and advisors, based on their demonstrated and potential leadership ability. For more than twenty-five years, MYLF's annual programs have reached over 5,000 students. Through a series of panel speakers, group learning activities, and intensive small group discussions, we take these young people and demonstrate to them that they can be proactive leaders in their own communities. These students then take these skills and bring them back to their home school environments. After serving on the Conference Planning Committee as the Director of Staff for three years, I have moved to the role of Conference Co-Director. I worked to oversee a staff of twelve conference planning committee members and their subsequent teams. Hosting 95 delegates and another 53 staff members, the 2016 conference added to the wonderful history that the MYL Foundation has established. Programming, communication, supervision, public speaking, alumni relations and working with donors are just some of the primary skills utilized in this role. Show less I served on the 2012/13, 2013/14, and 2014/15 Conference Planning Committee as the Director of Staff. In these roles, I had responsibilities including promoting staff applications at alumni meetings and through social media, working along side the Director of Junior Staff in selecting the Staff members and sending weekly emails prior to the conference, planning and leading spring staff training, serving as the primary point of contact for staff members before, during, and after the conference, as well as providing them with supervision and support throughout their time.
