    • Stories On Our Plate | SOOP

      May 2016 - now
      Co-founder and Director

Working with the other Founders, I take a hands-on role formulating business and fundraising strategies, the direction and vision of the enterprise, strengthening networks, and to ensure it meets its social mission and core aims. In addition, I coordinate SOOP's supper club event series and manage a growing network of volunteers throughout the organisation. Established in 2016, SOOP was founded with a purpose to improve the lives of refugees living in the UK through the lens of food by: supporting refugees in countering the barriers to opportunity and employment in the UK’s food and catering industry; and challenging the negative attitudes towards refugee communities through the means of food. Central to SOOP is a culinary programme for participants who have been forced to their country of origin. This is aimed at providing a platform of learning and opportunity for participants who wish to have a career in the UK’s food and catering industryAnother integral component to SOOP’s work are SOOP events primarily in the form of monthly story-based supper clubs, which brings communities and SOOP’s culinary participants over food. By celebrating our differences through the shared experience of a meal we open up new possibilities and ideas of belonging, and this underlines the SOOP philosophy Show less
