  Youth Leadership Steward

  North East Trees is a non-profit organization that cares about the environment. We canvass areas around the community in search of people who wish to have a free tree planted in their parkways as well as trying to gather supporters for our events. In these events we gave out free trees including instructions on how to plant and care for them. As a youth leadership steward, I initiated excellent oral presentations during our events, supervised workshops for children during our ecological awareness events as well as supervision of crew members during field and nursery maintenance. Worked with Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC), Mayors office, Parks & Rec, boost mobile rock corps and independent organizations that volunteer their time and space with our organization.   As a summer program mentor, I developed a weekly program curriculum with Youth Policy Institute (YPI) mentor colleagues , based on YPI provided standard set courses and activities, for children in grades 1-3. Classes revolved around math, science, reading, physical education and field trips. Ensuring child development and that everyone enjoys their summer program with YPI.

  Field Supervisor

  A new program was initiated in partnership with the Los Angeles affordable housing program and the Mayors Million Trees initiative. Newly built housing required a sustainable landscape design, which included drought tolerant and native plants with suitable irrigation systems. As a field supervisor, I was involved in landscape design and construction in both residential and city space. Majority of time spent within residential landscape installing irrigation systems, sprinklers, controllers and planting native tree/plants through the Los Angeles City affordable housing program. Maintained log sheet on completed landscape projects and conducted regular monthly maintenance. Through the Los Angeles Million Tree initiative, city space projects involved planting trees and converting/creating pocket parks, which also involved routine maintenance (pruning, watering, cleaning, pesticides/herbicides, weeding and clearing out shrubs).   Social Work Intern in multiple positions such as, resource coordinator, support counselor, group facilitator, but overall I worked as a case manager. Served students within the age range of 17-24 who were removed from high school for conditions that were out of their control. Assist in providing resources, therapy and life skills and college education/awareness. Completed fourteen hours per week for the entire academic year.When it came to working as group facilitator, It revolved around educating students on the importance of higher education and providing information on financial aid, resume workshops and career choice/major. As a support counselor/case manager, I worked with clients on support plans to achieve their long-term goals in small segments. In addition, motivated and empowered students to achieve their goals so they never lose hope. As the client became close to completing their long-term goals, the client and I would develop an exit plan to assure future success and the continued support of friends and family. Whether students wanted to complete their studies and obtain their traditional high school diploma and/or simultaneously join the workforce and continue towards college, we ensure that each client had the proper support, resource and guidance. Lastly, conducted Biopsychosocial assessments for new and returning students and relayed information to immediate supervisor when disclosed information might need serious clinical bases therapy.
