      Jul 2013 - Aug 2013
      Archaeologist

Archaeologist participating in remote expedition to Emal, Yucuatan, Mexico. Assistant to director Dr. Scott Johnson. Emal appears to have been the center of precolumbian (and modern) salt production on the north coast (Andrews 1980:22, 28, 96; Andrews and Mock 2002:310; Kepecs 1999:72). This vital commodity may have been traded throughout much of Mesoamerica (Kepecs 1999:481-484), yet the site of Emal is relatively small and unadorned, and this may be a sign of the complex socio-political history of this site. -Johnson 2013 Show less
