      Materials Science Research Placement

      I spent 10 weeks working at the Swiss Federal Materials Laboratories, which provided an excellent first insight into life as a research scientist. On top of being trained in using techniques such as SEM, DHM and nano-indentation, I was exposed to a wide variety of projects and techniques used by other materials post docs. I emerged with a far greater appreciation of the complexity and number of materials fabrication and characterisation techniques. I myself focused on a method to determine the optimal composition of an adhesion layer for a given system using nano-indentation induced delamination. Show less
