Over ten intensive weeks, I engaged with tax equity financial modeling, diligence of case study and live deal documents, DOE hydrogen hub research, tax exempt infrastructure investment structure, and monitoring of existing GE Vernova portfolio deals. In light of the IRA, it was exciting to understand how GE can utilize production tax credits through wind project deals while simultaneously deploying GE Renewables equipment to help the US reach its grid decarbonization goals and overall climate commitments as well. My skills of excel and financial modeling were advanced by directly interacting with GE's industry-renowned tax equity model, enhancing my understanding of PTCs, MACRS depreciation, the flip structure of renewables deals, PAYGO, etc. Through research, I identified broad and niche areas in which GE Vernova can capitalize and empower the DOE's soon-to-be regional hydrogen hubs, as well as potential tax exempt investors demonstrating interest in infrastructure investments in light of new concepts of direct pay and transferability with tax credits generated from renewable projects. I was fortunate to expand my presentation skills as well with the opportunity to conduct a case study-generated Pre-Investment Committee presentation to senior leadership team, as well as an all-encompassing internship review at the end of the summer where I demonstrated all that I learned and how I've helped contribute to GE Vernova's decarbonization goals in the lens of blue sky thinking.
